Setting intentions for 2022

Jan 17, 2022

I don’t know about you, but New Year's Resolutions simply don’t work for me. They’re too rigid, too “right or wrong” and far, far, far too easy to fall short of the mark on and beat up on yourself. I’ve had great success in setting a theme or intention for the year ahead instead. An idea or vision that I can embody in all parts of my life and in a huge number of ways, that I can use to guide me closer to the kind of life I want to live.

If you missed the arbitrary calendar mark for January 1 that’s completely fine – set your intention now. What area’s of your life felt too heavy, or neglected in 2021? Do you have specific goals or activities that you want to achieve in this year ahead? What is it that ties them together?

For me, my intention for 2021 is all about being more in tune. In tune with what I need, in tune with how I feel, in tune with what’s happening in the world and in tune with my family. All that power of course also relates to the business. In tune with what our Birds want! In tune with the kind of jewellery that is energising and lifting people up. Crafting a collection of jewels that is in tune with where I want the business to develop and change and grow! So what is your intention for 2022? Here are some quick tips to get yourself on the right wavelength in 2022.

  • Sit and think about where you put your energy last year. Maybe energy this year needs to go into the same place (like your home, your family, your career) or maybe it needs to go into a different area.

  • Set a broad vision for how you want your life to grow and change this year. Maybe it's about being more intuitive, maybe it’s about focusing on your health or creating more joy.

  • Remember to think of THEME rather than specific actions. This is not the place for “I want to do 10 squats a day” – this is about setting an intention for your WHOLE life, not just one part of it.

  • Come up with 5 simple things across all parts of your life that you can use this vision to guide you in the next year. For example, if your intention is to create more joy, then what’s a quick and easy way to do that in your home? Maybe it's bright yellow couch cushions, or a fantastic new set of earrings for your work zoom calls.

  • Write it down. Write down your intention, write down your 5 easy things, and put this intention somewhere you will be reminded. Maybe it’s on your fridge or the family chalk board, maybe it’s on your Instagram or as a post-it note on your computer screen. Keep that intention front and center and look for big and little ways to incorporate it into your life this year!

Intentions feel so much more powerful than a resolution because they do cross over into so many parts of your life and give guidance rather than strict rules.
