Sustainability

The jewellery industry is a global one, rich in people, places, and processes, and that complexity is exactly why so few brands tell you much about what's behind a piece. We'd rather show you what we know. Across our materials, our packaging, and the way we work in our own studio, here's what we know and how we work.

Our Materials

We work with a mix of natural and lab grown gemstones, and our precious metals are a combination of newly mined and recycled. We use recycled metal where we can, because it puts less pressure on new mining and makes use of what already exists. What we won't compromise on is the standard each material is held to, which is why we partner with suppliers who carry independent certification or undergo independent auditing, rather than taking anyone's word for it.

Our Suppliers

We work with accredited suppliers we've built long term relationships with, and every one of them is held to a standard we trust.

Many of our suppliers are certified members of the Responsible Jewellery Council, the leading standard for responsible business practice across the jewellery and watch industry. That certification is independently audited and it covers business ethics, human rights, labour conditions, health and safety and environmental performance, from the point of mining through to the finished piece. It's not a claim a supplier can make on their own behalf. It has to be earned and verified.

Others are members of SEDEX and hold an independent SMETA audit, one of the most widely used ethical trade audits in the world. It assesses labour standards, health and safety, environmental performance and business ethics against internationally recognised conventions. Where a SMETA audit identifies anything that needs improvement, a corrective action plan is required, and progress is tracked over time.

Our Packaging

Our packaging uses paper that is FSC certified, which means it can be traced back to a responsibly managed forest. That certification is independently audited at every stage, from the forest through to the final product and it guarantees the wood hasn't come from illegal logging or from clearing natural forest and that the people who work in that forest are treated fairly. Our packaging is free from plastic laminate, which is added to a large amount of paper based packaging on the market to give it a glossy finish or protect it from moisture, and prevents it from being recycled once it's there. That means ours can go straight into your household recycling.

Where we use fabric, it's cotton, including the handles. The handle can be separated from the bag, so each material can be recycled or disposed of correctly.

In the Studio

We don't believe in single-use plastic in our studio, even in the parts of the process no customer would ever see. The small bags we use to organise and protect components are made from a recyclable plastic and are put back into use again and again, for as long as they're fit for purpose. It's a standard we hold ourselves to quietly, because sustainability isn't just what shows up on the outside of the box.

Excess metal and offcuts from the manufacturing process are never thrown away. They're sent to an external refiner, where the precious metal is recovered and purified, then returned to the supply chain to be used in new jewellery. It means the gold and silver in a piece you wear may have already lived a life before it reached you.

This is what goes into every piece before it reaches you, looked after at every step, so you can wear it with complete confidence.
